Transmission swap vibrates, noisy 700 1991

On my 1991 740 Turbo, trans cooler in radiator sprung a leak into the trans fluid, resulting in trans slipping and sticking in 2nd. Was advised trans was shot (now I wonder if I could have flushed and made it work again???) and installed a used trans and converter from a 1987 740 Turbo. Had to change over the bell housing (notched for 1991 motor with RPM sensor)as well as a lot of guts at the front of the trans to bolt up the older trans.

Trans now shifts and runs OK, but makes a terrible grumbling sound and vibrates---worst at 2,000 RPM. Pulled the trans and changed out torque converter, thinking it was vibrating, but still acts the same.

Should I go get another trans, or did I put something back together wrong, ya think?
