My car is the same. I usually wait for it to go down to the add mark and then put in a full qt so I don't have a partial qt. setting around.

My car is using oil at the rate of about 1 qt. per 1000 mi so it doesn't take long. Probably the result of the PO, (mom's taxi) following the manufacturer's extended oil change interval!
