When it happened I shook my head too. It did happen - just that way. I drove out the back drive - still moving pretty slowly (10-15) - and came up almost at once on a car moving even slower. I hit the brakes, and had to press the pedal HARD to get it to slow. Following on a bit - had to stop again and the brakes were fine.

At the stop sign, I stopped and restarted the motor - and the ABS light off. This same scenario has happened at random for a long time (just happened this morning, for instance). I am hoping that all I need to do is a good cleaning at the wheels to correct all this - just have to get to it.

Usually, when I stop and re-start the ABS light will stay off (as it did this morning). This particular time, though - the ABS light went out, came back on, and then the speedo stopped. I drove on to the mall, came back and pulled, cleaned, and re-installed the cluster. Note that the hard pedal was gone or I would have never attempted to go on to the mall.

I am sure you are right, as I too could see no connection. Odd thing is - I have never had the pedal go that hard on me - before or since.
