dirty flywheel =slipping clutch ? (pic) 200 1982

(1982 244 GLT)

Recently I replaced my starter, and was using my digital camera to take a look at the flywheel teeth, what I found was this: a nasty oil/dirt
residue covering my flywheel (see pic). Recently my clutch has been slipping, and I don't know if this is due just to a worn clutch, or because of the oil on the flywheel (I don't have much experience with transmissions but from what I know the clutch catches right onto the back of the flywheel correct? making it susceptible to being contaminated by the oil and dirt?) anyway- is this common, and if it is a problem, what could be causing it?

a picture for reference
