instrument cluster wiring 200

try not to laugh...as part of the blower motor replacement project which is now winding up, i took out the instrument cluster (for more room to work and also to get rid of the temp compensation board - which i replaced with a piece of lamp wire firmly pushed onto pins 1&3). now it's time to put the cluster back and you guessed it, where do the little wires go? i actually made a diagram which i cant find now...anyway,

a while back i installed a large tach and small clock to replace the large clock in the cluster (tks to rob bareiss for the walk thru on that one).so, now the plastic wire connectors to the fuel/temp/speedo/little clock are no brainers but there are 3 wires left.

on the large tach (as seen from the back) there is the 3 pronged male connector for the little clock on top and 2 male connectors, side by side, on the bottom. in addition, on the brown plastic backing of the cluster, just below the left side of the tach (looking from the rear) there is a female connector soldered into the cluster backing. so, three spots for 3 wires. i dont have cruise control but i see those 2 male connectors surrounded by a round yellow plastic for protection. otherwise, there are no other places on the back of the cluster to attach wires.

inside my dash, apart from the connectors (which i know where they go), i have 3 wires looking for a home. one red/white with a plastic female connector (probably the wire that powers my tach?). the second is a pink/white with a bare male connector. the third wire is a yellow/red wire with a plastic covered male connector.

the first wire (red/white) can fit on either side of the 2 male connectors on the bottom of the tach. the second wire (pink/white) can fit into the male connector on the brown plastic cluster backing, and the third wire (yellow/red) has no where to go. the opening on it's plastic covered female connector is not wide enough to slide over either one of the two male connectors on the bottom of the tach. could this yellow/red wire have been to my clock which i took out? did this wire just become redundant when i took out the clock and put in the big tach? i really cant remember...

i dry fitted the cluster in the dash and attached the red/white wire to the back of the tach and the pink/white wire into the male fitting on the brown cluster backing. then i connected the ground terminal on the battery and started the car. car started easily but the tach didnt move. took ground off battery and switched the red/white wire to the other male connector on the bottom of the tach, reconnected the battery and started the car again. still no signal to the tach. disconnected battery, made coffee and typed this rather long post. to add to my worries, my bentley's is not here for me to look at the wiring diagram (sorry). at least the new blower motor works like a champ!

thanks for any replies and sympathy.
