repair exaust piping 200 1990

I am wondering how I can repair the exaust piping on my station wagon . The pipe from the engine manifold rusted and broke in half where the two pipes join
into one pipe. I was wondering if the pipe can be welded back together or will it continue to break at that point. If anyone has experience in this I would like to here what you have done or would do. Thanks , Rich
