steering box 1800 1965

On my newly acquired '65, my steering box is leaking badly. I filled
it with gear oil yesterday. Today I noticed it all leaked out, just
sitting in my garage. It looks like it leaked from both sides of the
box.
I am also having steering issues with it. I don't know if it's
related though. I have a bit ofplay in the steering as I'm driving.
A mechanic told me that it's on it's "last legs".
What is the best thing to do?
Look for a replacement? Put new seals in it and just deal with it? or ?
What years are compatible with '65? Are 122 series worth looking into?
Are they difficult to work on?
Is there repair info easily accessible?
Thanks in advance.
