tailgate shocks 900 1995

One of the tailgate shocks for this '95 940 turbo wagon just fell off, connector and all, from the the inside of the car. The threads are stripped on both the connector and the hole that it screws in to, so it won't screw back in. I think I need to get a new/used connector, rethread the hole, and get an adapter that can connnect the two. Is this on target for what needs to be done? Any advice appreciated.
