warped head and melted heater core--please send advice!! 900 1991

I drive a 91 940 turbo SE. Just over 200,000 miles. As a result of user error (which I am loath to admit) the car overheated (something of an understatement). I now have a warped head and melted heater core. The mechanics I use are very good. They gave me a price for repair. My question is once this has happened, will I have incident after incident with collateral damage? The body of the car is in excellent condition. I had the air conditioning converted last summer.

I have unfortunately learned a lesson I'll never forget--pull over no matter where you are. It is/was a great car--first car I was ever nuts about. But, I'm on a very tight budget and not able to put money towards this indefinitely.

Has anyone had this experience, fixed their car and lived happily ever after? Or has anyone put money towards a problem like this and then regretted it afterward.

Like I said before, the mechanics I use are really good and very honest. I am going to talk to them about this in the next few days. But I was hoping for some unbiased opinions before I talked to them.
