AC Conversion - OK to run AC with hotwired Pressostat? 700 1986

Hello -

1986 745 I've had for about 2-3 weeks. My 3rd 134a conversion, but my first time on a 700.

I had to hotwire the compressor to get it charged, but even under full charge, I was surprised it wouldn't run without the hotwire connection. Then I got it running by connecting the two leads on the Pressostat connector, so I suspect a bad Pressostat.

At first I thought the Pressostat was just to prevent the compressor from running under a low charge to prevent the comp. from seizing, So, knowing I had a full charge I planned to run with the switch hotwired until I got a new one. When I talked to the parts guy at the auto store, he called it a clutch cycling switch, which made me nervous - now I'm thinking the compressor will run non-stop with the hotwired switch, which could lead to too high of pressures? Is this true? I'm driving to the dealer tomorrow for a new switch, but it's a 2-3 hour trip and I WANT THAT A/C RUNNING!!!!

Thanks for the help everyone.

Aaron
