94 940 wagon knocking noise in engine compartment 900

I have 1994 940 wagon with about 130k miles on it, it just start having a knocking/ticking noise consistent with the engine speed, the noise appears to be coming somewhere near/between the water pump and distributor....I have taken it in to be looked at, they could not pinpoint the knocking noise initially and will have to do further examination...Just so I am so what knowledgeable when they come back with feedback, what are some typical things that may be causing this knocking noise based on the model and milage?

I change the oil regularly and had the timing belt changed about 30k miles ago, try to keep it maintained, this noise just started, never have heard it before....

I appreciate your feedback in advance!!

Thank you, this is an awesome board!!
