Gentlemen,
I need expert advice. Please, read carefully! :-)
My clacking from a head and cam swap (http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=1096848) continues
90' b230f 531head.
This is what I know 100%, for sure, certainly, abolutely:
not rod knock, not piston slap, used a styethescope, great oil pressure, NOTHING dropped down inside the motor or head, great oil splash when v.cover is off, all valve clearances are perfect, shims all there, hushers all there, valve springs, buckets, retainers, you name it, got 140lbs (+/- 1lb) across first three, 135-ish lbs in da back cylinder, new h.gasket, new seals, new cam bearing, head had 400 miles on a COMPLETE & NEW rebuild with a VX cam, cam not siezed, timing perfect, no oil in coolant, no coolant in oil, starts right up, no poping, not intake manny related, not exhaust manny related, not tranny -or any further back- related, not fuel, not spark, etc.
I checked everything myself!
And, just walked in the door for my local (trustworthy) dynamic, genius, thorough, local, indy euro guy. $90 for him and the 60 year old sage (his partner) to go over EVERYTHING I listed above.
This LOUD clacking is in the head (especially when cold).
Goes away over 1,500 rpm, completely! ALMOST goes away when fully warmed up.
The noise is there when you remove the plug wire (at cap) and crank remotely
Could this head have pulled a guide? Or, could there be guide slippage? Head must come off this week end.
Any opinions as to possibilities?
