Temperature Board By-pass Kit by iPd 200 1989

My temp guage has never read accurately, and I'm sure it's due to the temp. compensation board. Since my odometer broke and I will have to remove the instrument cluster to get at it, I figured I should take care of this TC board thing. Browsing through the archives I came upon some good write-ups and pics of removing the TC board and soldering a wire from pin 1 to pin 3. IPd sells a little U-shaped thing that appears to just plug into the pins without the need to solder for a fairly decent price.

Now my question is since removing the TC board is endorsed by iPd and some very knowledgeable brickboarders, does this mean the TC board is not necessary? Connecting pin 1 to pin 3 will cause the temp. guage to function the way it would if a TC board were there?
