But would it be a 240??

Just like the Beetle and now the Rabbit, it'd be a transparent marketing ploy. These cars have nothing in common with the original. Good thing too, since the originals weren't very safe or enviro-friendly.

The things that we love about the 240 simply wouldn't be there. *Couldn't* be there. Because safety/emisssions/economy have come so far, there's no way to reuse just about any of the existing 240 parts on the market. Saftey alone has come a long way in the 30 years since the 240 was first produced, that alone precludes using any semblance of the 240's unibody, not to mention that economics would require using the P2 platform anyway. Now it's a blank slate you're working from.

You'd wind up with a S/V70 in a different shape... driven in a commercial by some funkedelic college hipsters and the girl with the snapple voice would say "The new Volvo 240"... it'd be more of an insult than an homage to the design we know and love.
