740 radiator sounds like a cat's inside 700 1991

My 1991 740 B230F with the Regina system had a massive coolant leak today.

Actually the overflow resevoir wall burst spewing coolant everywhere. I am not sure if the car overheated and then the resevoir burst, or if the tank just gave way from age and that is my only issue.

But I noticed while in the driveway that the radiator (after heating up) sounds like it had an animal flailing inside it. Basically it's percolating inside the radiator enough to physically feel the bumps on the hoses and the radiator body.

Oh, and as I was pulling in to the driveway (less than 1 mile from the blowout), my check engine came on (code 1-2-3, coolent temp sensor failure) and the car started sputtering. After clearing the code and restarting this did not come back.

So: Do I have....
1) a simple overflow tank failure
2) something wrong with one of the sensors
3) a bad radiator
4) a bad thermostat

or something else?

Ever gratefull,
the plastic lizard....
