Transmission on 1991 240 200

Last week I was cruising along at night and did something stupid. My car did not seem to be in gear completely(it's an automatic) and my gear shifter was not lighted. In reaching down to ensure that it was in gear, I inadvertantly bumped it into reverse while it was still going forward. There was a clunk and a sudden stop. I was able to restart the car right away and drove on home with no problems and for the next couple of days. Yesterday when I got in to start it up, immediately the auxillary fan came on and the car made a whining sound when I first put it in to gear. I drove it about 40 miles after that with no noticeable problem. Do you think that I have really messed up the transmission on a perfectly good 240. I love this car.
