Seat belt retractor is jammed 700 1991

Hi:

Has anyone had any luck freeing a jammed seatbelt retractor on a 740? The one mounted on the seat is jammed and won't let me pull the belt and buckle out. I unbolted it and tried tapping on it to knock the inertia reel/flyweights loose, but to no avail. I am leery about disassembling it as it looks different from the one shown in the FAQs and I don't know what I might run into... Items like this are usually designed to not be tampered with.

Any help is appreciated. These babies are not cheap and I hope I won't have to replace it.
