Need Engine Advice 900

Well here is an interesting story to some maybe. Sunday I was on my way home from Pittsburgh when I noticed my temperature gauge pegged. I immediately pulled over and pop the hood and notice that anti-freeze is pouring out from the car. I try to replace it with some spare coolant I had in the trunk and it went right out. I had it towed to my mechanic and he told me that the water pump completely failed and that the failed water pump caused the head gaskets to begin leaking. Here's the kicker though...

I had the water pump replaced last October, by the same mechanic and he said he is going to the water pump manufacuter for the head gasket issue and the towing fee. The manufacturer has said since it has been more than 12K miles (it's been around 18K), they will not honor the warranty, but it also hasn't been a year.

My question is: do I have any sort of leg to stand on with all this? Water Pumps are supposed to last a lot longer than a year and because it failed, I know have these issues with the head gaskets. Someone suggested that I bring up the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Law, where should I go from here?
