EGR Replace or plug? 900 1992

I am getting a code 2-4-1 and according to info in the archives this is the EGR valve. Has anyone successfully cleaned and or repaired an EGR? I have to pass smog in CA.BUT my 87 745T passes without an EGR. There were posts also in the archives about removing the EGR and plugging the holes and Vac line. I gathered this was doable on a 92T model but not later. If I can save a couple of hundred bucks it would be nice.Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
