Electricals partially dead - what to check? 900 1995

My wife just called to tell me that our 1995 940 Turbo sedan (98K miles, automatic) wouldn't start when she came out of a store. Door locks, key-in-ignition chime, interior lights all work, so it doesn't seem to be a dead battery. But she says there are no indicator lights on the dash when the key is in run position, and nothing at all happens when she tries to crank it. I had her try shifting it in and out of park, but that had no effect. I'm 150 miles away and it's after closing time so she couldn't reach our mechanic. If possible, I'd like to avoid having it towed, so we need any/all help with remote diagnosis. She's reasonably car-savvy, but not a mechanic, so it would be helpful if suggestions of stuff to check are extra clear about where things are and what they look like!
