Tying on a mattress?? 200 1989

Hey,

I'm taking a 1000 mile drive in about a week and I'm trying to decide if it's feasible to tie my full sized mattress and box springs on the top. I have a 240 wagon without a roof rack. Obviously, I'll be doing highway driving and I'm wondering if anyone out there has any hints? Best way to tie it on? Best way to make it stay?
