A/C clutch question 700 1986

My brother bought a 740 dl with non-working A/C. I pulled a vacuum and it held, so we decided to throw in some Pag oil and 134a, and see what happens. The fuse blows everytime I turn on the a/c. I disconnect the a/c clutch wire, to find the short and the fuse quits blowing, so I'm figguring the clutch coil is bad.
Here's my question- the wire runs out of the back of the clutch to some kind of little block bolted to the rear of the compressor, is that just how they secure the wire, or is that some kind of diode? Thanks in advance
