Japanese 4 cyl transplant w/5 speed? 444-544

Flat out in 4th today on the freeway in my 64 PV I found myself just keeping up with the slow lane traffic and I'm thinking:
1. This B1800 & original trans can't be long for this world
2. I haven't begun to spend $ on carb work yet.
3. An alternator would be nice
4. 5th gear would be nice
5. Fuel injection would be nice
6. More dependability, MPG, and horsepower would be nice

So I cruised the used Japanese engine websites and for less than $1500 I could have it all. I know it is blasphemy and I actually enjoy adjusting valves, but a clean installation could be really cool.

My questions O Mighty knowledgeable ones:
Has it been done?
Where can I get the info?
