Removed front carpet and very surprised. 200 1988

I just removed the front carpet in my 88 245 and to my suprise there was very little rust. Only the unpainted thin metal cover on the drivers side. There was some surface rust on the drivers side but can easily be fixed and painted. The passenger side was clean and the original paint still there.

Would there be any reason for me to remove all the carpets and check the rear. I never have passengers back there.

On another point my rear wheel well has rusted at the back of the wheel on the passenger side. It just the seam thats rusted. Any suggestions on how to fix?
