M41 J Transmission 120-130

I have a 1972 M41 Jtype transmission that I have put the long shifter top cover on installed in my 1967 Amazon that has a couple of problems. First it pops out of gear in reverse if I do not hold it in gear when backing up. The other problem is when I downshift going more or less around 40mph or faster the transmission acts as if its in neutral and dosen't slow the car until under 40mph or so. Also I have noticed a couple times when backing up a steep hill or letting the clutch out with lot of power it seemed like my rear tires were spinning but actually was the transmission itself spinning itself in gear. Anyone have any ideas what my problem might be?

Thanks inadvance,

Bob
