Well, I was not sure how it would turn out. I cut springs on my 87 when I did it, but didn't go for 2 full coils. The thing that bugged me most I think was that the car sat high, meaning it had healthy, strong coils- not sagged out at all. I almost didn't do it but then considered that it would be hard to get back into the struts to do it later, if I did want to.
As it turned out, after cutting, I was able to assemble the struts without a spring compressor- they're under just a little bit of tension, enough that you can press the upper spring perch down by hand.
I put the cut end at the bottom, and it does seem like it wants to come off the bottom spring perch a little. I should probably band the bottom coils together or something so it sits correctly.
BTW I found I needed to make a tool to torque the top nuts on these Bilsteins. The strut shaft just spun as I tried to tighten the nut with the impact gun. I took a 15/16" 1/2 inch drive socket, and ground 2 flats on the outside so my 1-inch oil change wrench would hold it from the outside- then held the strut rod using an allen wrench (6mm I think) while tightening down the nut. Had to finish both sides like this.
