A sad report of my (all too recent) experience . . . 120-130

I made the mistake of test driving my 122 recently in the middle of a repaint, and unfortunately, without the hood latch in place. At about 20 mph, the hood flew up. It bent the hinges, so that the hood would not close right, though the hood itself did not appear to be damaged, at least not the outer skin. I tried diassembling the hinges and straightening the bent parts, to no avail. It was also obvious that the inner support structure was bent where it bolts to the hinges.

Ultimately, I bought used hinges cheap, thanks to ebay! With the new hinges on, the hood will close properly. It still opens farther than it should, indicating that the inner support structure remains a bit bent, but I actually like it that way. The hood effectively opens farther now, so I no longer hit my head on the latch when it is open.

I highly recommend NOT testing the 20 mph hood opening routine! (Sadly for you, I'm guessing your question is not entirely hypothetical, eh?)

Ted
