I'll second that 200

I started using Castrol GTX just about the same year you did - soon after the dinosaurs vanished and the crude was first formed in the earth's crust.

I use Castrol 20W50 in all four of my cars all year round. I know that it is not the recomended weight, but I live in Sacramento, where it hits 110 in the summer and rarely gets down into the high 30s on the coldest nights of winter.

I have well over 3/4 of a million miles on my current fleet of two bricks and two BMWs. No car or motorcycle I have ever owned has ever had an engine oil-related failure. I have never gone deeper than a valve adjustment in any of my own vehicles.

....Transmissions are another matter.... I have lost two 5-speeds, a Toyota and a Volvo. Both had Valvoline synthetic transmission oil in them for several years prior to failure. In the case of the Volvo, the synthetic oil was too heavy.
