89 240 temperature guage fluctuates wildly and gas guage does not work 200

I have a 89 240 temp. guage fluctuates wildly. If you hit instrument cluster it will work normally. Also the gas guage does not work at all. I did read about a comp. board for the temp. guage that could be bypassed. Does this board have anything to do with the gas guage. Any incite would be greatly appreciated.
