Fuel pump 1800 1971

It has been a long time... Been getting an education and have not touched in old Volvo in 12 months! At any rate, I am back at it and have a question. I am dealing with an 1800e and have discovered that the relief valve cap on the fuel pump is corroded beyond repair. This is the older pump with an in, out and return spigot. Is there a problem using a pump with just the in and out, and routing the returning straight to the tank???

Thanks

Kent
