240 clacking noise 200 1991

hello, just signed up for this forum. had my 240 wagon for 15 years now. bought used with low miles back then. always have had a clacking from the engine which used to go away when warmed up. my daughters have used the car at college for years and now i get it back again with 225k miles. dont mind at all though, it is a great car. the clack is much louder now and doesnt go away after it is warm but does get less. the noise does go away at about 1500 rpms though and the old broomhandle on the engine seems to have the noise coming from the rear of valve cover, not the engine block. aren't the lifters hydraulic on the 230f motor? do the valves ever need adjustment? one last question. one of the daughters just bought a used v70, 2000 wagon, no turbo, 5cyl. does this motor require a timing belt change? thanks all, carl
