94 940 wagon fuel guage sticks on empty 900

Just trying to get some feedback to troubleshoot the fuel guage in my 94 940 wagon. It works 85% of the time but from time to time it will just drop to empty. When this happens it will stay this way for a short time and then pop up to the proper level. Where should I start troubleshooting?
