245 od just went out.. weird 200 1986

So I am driving the wagon I picked up for $800 bucks I don't really expect much but the od was working fine when I bought it. I have put over 1k miles on it since I got the wagon. I am coming to work today shift into 4th. I then take the car up to 60mph put the clutch in and push the magic button.. I hear a click light comes on .. No OD. I do it few more times nothing. I hit the od button with out the clutch and bingo comes on. I shift down into other gears and it will not go into OD again. I hit the button a million times light comes and clicks on OD At all.

What would make the OD take a dump like that after it was working pretty good?

Thanks for any info
chris.
