Please help me figure out how to get my car started 200 1979

I have a 1979 240DL wagon. I was driving one day, and it stopped in the middle of the road. When I try to start it, it turns over, but will not fire up. I thought it might be the coil, but I replaced that and it still does the same thing. I don't know that much about cars, so does anyone have any ideas of what to try next?
