Status Update & Friend's PV Problem 444-544

Any hole in the fuel line between the tank and pump will result in the pump merely sucking air. These may or may not leak fuel.

The pumps valves may have dried crud/fuel gum. When I revived my PV from 15 years of sitting, i couldn't get the pump to work, even though the diapragm was fine, because the valves wouldn't seal and it couldn't pump. After messing around with the pump for about 6 hours I just went to a parts store, got a replacement, and the car fired up.
