Overdrive Randomly Goes In 700 1987

I have a 1987 Volvo 740 Turbo Intercooler sedan. It has an automatic transmission. Occasionally, the overdrive light turns on in the dashboard and the 4th gear is disabled, causing the car to feel forced especially if this occurs in the highway, although it happens in town, too. Does anybody have any suggestions? I was thinking the overdrive switch. I cheched the overdrive fuse and it's okay. I also removed it to see if it would solve this, but when it's removed the 4th gear remains disabled.
