Where's my coolant going??? 200

1990 245 with 350K. As I was cleaning up after changing the oil about 2 weeks ago, I discovered, much to my dismay, the plastic expansion tank for the radiator was empty. It took a gallon of anti-freeze to bring the coolant level back up to the cool mark on the tank. I searched for leaks and found none. It's been slowing losing coolant and the expansion tank is again dry after 2 weeks of daily use. The temp of the car has been normal the whole time and seems to be running fine, however, it does seem not to have the pep on accel as I remember. I've taken the inside of the car apart enough to check for heater core leaks, but everything is dry. I'm thinking blown head gasket now. Is there any easy way to trouble-shoot this in the driveway with minimial tools???
Thanks
