main fuel pump noise with new pump...signs of something? 200 1983

well....I've got the turbo running well now and it has most of the power that i'd expect it to have....but....I replaced the main fuel pump (and transfer pump) with brand new parts quite a while ago when I first bought the car. The main pump has been obnoxious since I installed it. I thought that i maybe had a leak in the fittings somewhere...so i disconnected it all and then hooked it back up and there is still the noise like it's a pump that is going bad. This should not be typical of a "new" pump should it?
Thanks,
