Question on strut installation 700 1989

I had my shop install Sachs struts on the front of my 89 760. They followed the hints I pulled from the FAQ's.

When finished and all was tight (before putting the assembly back on the car) the tech was all a fluster because there was a slight play - side to side - if you grabbed the very top of the shaft and tried to move it.

I think it was just a slight amount of play within the shock body itself. He was thinking that it was the wrong shock. Everything was tight and it was per instructions. I drove it home, and all seems OK.

Was he right? FCP Groton said they sold tons of the Sachs and had never encountered any problem with them.

Thanks
