seat adjustments 1987 240 200

I was driving my S.O.s 240 yesterday, on the way to pick her up at the airport. It seems that I'm way too close to the steering wheel, with the seat adjusted all the way back. I'm about 6 feet tall (ca. 184cm for you Euro types) and it feels claustrophobic, plus my right knee is right close to the metal ignition key. It looks like it could slice off my kneecap in a collision! Is there a smart modification I can do which allows for a greater range of front-to-back adjustment? She's about 5'5", and is the main driver, but this has been the long distance car for us. The seat is pretty well shot, so I'm going to be looking for a replacement, (along w/ a glovebox!) so this is a good time to address this irritation. Thanx all
