Brake questions 200

So I think I'm brave enough to service my brakes. It seems fairly straight forward after reading Erling's post on it. I have a couple of Questions though....

Are volvo pads the way to go. I would have to order them over the net. Are Napa pads any good and can you reuse the old hardware or would I need the hardware kits that are available. There is a Napa near my home.

Also are anti squeal shims always required.
