All the M40's I have driven have a distinctive whine when going in reverse. I'm getting that whine in 1st through 3rd going forward but not in 4th. Tranny oil was changed to Redline MTF and the noise became more pronounced. Last night Castrol hypoid 80/90 replaced the Redline. Its a little quieter now but the whine is still there 1st - 3rd.

Is it time to start rebuilding that spare M40 sitting in the shed?
