Haaaard Staaaart 120-130

Hello All,

I think my starter is finally burnt out - I still haven't got the B20 built (seem to be missing a head...), but I would like to get the B18 sorted out (sort of a personal thing at this point). Here's what happens when I attempt to start the beast:

First try - pull out the choke (it is set properly - I think), and crank...almost fires (faint hope that today will be better).

Second try - keep choke out, and crank again...turns over sort of slowly...no hope of firing.

Third try - play with choke - may start to pick up speed with the starter (running 15W40).

Repeat until about the 6 - 8th time is sort of sputters, then on the next time it will go.

Once started for the first time it will start fine for the day...

Here's what I've checked.
Starter was rebuilt (will have to do it again), Battery is fine. Plugs are new, timing is stock 10 deg BTDC and working (checked with timing light), dwell is fine, points are fine, plug wires are new, SU's have been fiddled with and I have a set of HIF's that I hope to finish soon - but the HS6's are on it at the moment and have some shaft wear, the B18 is low on compression (110 psi on cylinder 2+3...the rest are fine).

Help.
Craig
