'95 940 brakelights not working 900

Hi to all1

I had a nice lady tell me this morning that my brake lights didn't work.

When I got home from work I started poking around .. read the FAQs (not much in there about this, so it must be rare). Both bulbs are new, fuse is good ... however the 3rd kight on the shelf is loose and has fallen forward (PO must have cracked the housing, and when I tried to put it back the cover and mount came to pieces).

Can this third light be my problem? Can I just remove it and tape up the wires (until I can get another, anyway)?
