764 rough idle + crankcase ventilation 700 1983

Friend has '83 764 with only about 80K miles, dealer maintained. For son to learn to drive in. Darn clean car, too.

Auto tranny. AC upgraded to R134a by Volvo! Nivomats, but is convertible to non-Nivomat due to having the standard-type rear axle, not the IRS variety.

What does this car have for crankcase ventilation?
FAQ only discusses this for the red blocks, as I understand it.

Idle is somewhere around 700 rpm per dashboard tach.
Rough idle.
Any suggestions as to cause of rough idle?
Should we clean the throttle body?
Car has fuel distributor at rear of block with 6 hoses going off to the 6 injectors. I'm used to the LH2.4 on our '89 + '90 240 cars.
Ign. distributor is buried at rear of block - oh, thrills.

What is the plastic can thing on passenger side valve cover; is that the oil fill port? Has a couple hoses attached. PCV system hoses??
