Intermitent no-start 200 1988

My wife's '88 240 wagon has been refusing to start occasionally for the last 2 or 3 weeks. It cranks fine and on at least one occasion it started after some time cranking. Last time it happened we had it towed to the Volvo mechanic. They found that there was fuel and spark but the injectors weren't pulsing. They couldn't take their analysis any further because then it started and kept starting for the couple of days after. Now I have it again. The mechanic said it was either the ECU, the crank sensor or the cam sensor - or possible corrosion of connections.
I have an '85 240 junker. Can I swap out the sensors from it? - is it a straight forward job? (I don't know where they are located). Any hints or tips to a solution would be appreciated. Thanks.
