944´s timing adjustable to prevent pinging? 900

Hi! As I posted before, my 93 944 turbo is experiencing what sounds like valves pinging when accelerating. I have read in the FAQ that timing is controlled exclusively by the ECU, but was wondering if there was something to be done to check/adjust the correct functioning of the timing system. Can the distributor be re-aligned? Is it a possibility for some sensor (RPM) to be sending erroneous data to the ECU thus shifting the timing and causing pre-detonation?

Has anyone had this issue where the car pings for a couple of seconds when accelerating, just when the car is upshifting or when you make a kickdown to overpass? FYI, I am using premium gasoline (10% ethanol) and the car doesn´t ping when climbing steep hills.

Regards;
JGC
