Volvo RWD Safety issues....... 200

My wife's good friend was just T-boned in her Ford Mercury sedan. She was pushed into a telephone pole and the air bags deployed. She was bruised but otherwise OK.
Now wife wants to get rid of our 89 740 sedan and 86 740 wagon and get cars with an airbag. I've just completely redone both 740's(transmission,brakes,alternator, exhaust,Cat,A/C changed to R134,3 row rads, rear main seals,etc,etc)..
I feel that these are safe enough cars and an airbag is not that much more.
(my 93 has an air bag and I have offered to swap her for her 89 740 sedan).
What should I do?
