Turbo replacement 89 760 B230FT at 205,000 miles 700

The turbo in my 760 hasn't worked in years. It still runs well, however I would like to reclaim that extra horsepower. At 205,000 miles I had been told that reinstalling an operable turbo may be too much stress on the engine and quite possibly damage the engine beyond repair. Should I stay with what I have or or take the risk? If I don't replace the turbo, are there any other adjustments that I can make to compensate for the loss of power?

Thanks,

Hammerhead
