refurbishing seatbelt handles 1800

I have the seatbelt housing from an 1800 in my Amazon, so I thought I'd post here. The red release handles are pretty scratched and faded, so I want to know the best kind of paint to use to refresh them. If anyone has done this and has a make/paint code to quote that would be excellent. My wife said paint them with nail varnish, which seemed like a joke, but could this be as effective as paint? Thanks for any suggestions.

Tom
